Wesley was incorporated by an Act of NSW State Parliament in 1910 as a College of the Methodist Church in Australia and was opened in 1917 with nine students and Rev M Scott Fletcher as the first Master. It became a College of the Uniting Church in 1977. Prior to 1969 the College admitted only men as students but since then it has enrolled both men and women students and is the oldest co-ed college at The University of Sydney. Its motto is “Ministrate in Fide Vestra VIrtutem” which can be translated as “Serve Virtue in your Faith”.
