PROFESSOR Denis Winston's design for the proposed Isabel Fidler memorial garden in the
grounds of the University of Sydney.

A SECLUDED garden in the form of an oval lawn is the proposed University of
Sydney memorial to Isabel Fidler, M.B.E., B.A., who died in June last year.
Miss Fidler was actively associated with the University of Sydney from 1895 to 1952.
and was an honorary life vice-president of the National Council of Women.

Designed by Professor Denis Winston, the memorial is to be erected in the Uni-
versity grounds between Manning House and the new Economics Building overlooking the sports pavillion.

It is to be bounded to the south by a rising grass bank, giving the impression of an
amphitheatre, with three shallow steps rising to a curved stone seat and flanked by large
stone flower-boxes.

Jacarandas and flowering shrubs will be planted along- side the memorial, in which
blue, Miss Fidler's favourite colour, will predominate.
An appeal for the memorial has been launched by the Sydney University Women
Graduates' Association, the Sydney University Women's Union, the National Council
of Women, the Sydney University Settlement, the SydneyBusiness and Professional
Women's Club and the Social Workers' Association. ;
